A new development of 41 homes on the western side of Puddletown has been backed by West Dorset District Council’s planning committee.

The development by Wyatt Homes includes both flats and houses and will range in size from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom homes.  Roughly a third of the development is being reserved for affordable housing.

The village of Wool has been targeted by animal rights activists, who say it should change its name to ‘Vegan Wool’.

PETA director Elisa Allen wrote to Wool Parish Council asking for the change to “promote kindness to sheep”.

She said the charity would give all the village’s 2,000 residents a free ‘cruelty-free’ blanket if they agreed.
