Weldmar Hospicecare is gearing up for its silver anniversary by planning what it hopes will be its biggest ever Midnight Walk in July.
The hospice in Herringston Road, Dorchester first opened its doors on 19 January 1994 and more than 8,300 patients have been cared for since.
The aim was to try to get 500 women to walk along Weymouth Seafront at Midnight to raise money to help fund their services, with the event being a great success. Weldmar is now looking forward to making its 13th Midnight Walk the best yet to mark the silver anniversary.
The walk, on Saturday 20 July, gives women and girls an option to walk five, 6.5 or 10 miles under the stars along new routes around Weymouth. Anyone over the age of 14 is invited to take part to help raise money for Weldmar’s vital services.
Clair Walker, Midnight Walk’s event manager, said, “We are really excited about this year’s Midnight Walk. No-one imagined back in 2007 we would be here celebrating 13 years of this amazing event. This year’s Silver Spectacular is celebrating 25 years of hospice care in Dorset and it is support for events like these that safeguards the future of the hospice.”
Registration is £14 for under 18s and £19 for adults. This includes your entry to the Midnight Walk, a sparkly silver spectacular T-shirt, flashing headgear, refreshments during and after the walk, a medal, goodies and live entertainment afterwards.
