Dorchester Carnival was once again a success even if the weather did try to dampen the spirits during the festivities.

Dorchester Round Table is hoping to raise over £2,500 which will all be given back to all the entries of the procession.

The weekend kicked off with Wynn’s Funfair offering rides for children from Westfield Tech College, Wyvern School and Dorchester Opportunity Group.

In the evening there was a Party in the Park with music from Thomas and the Mock Ups followed by The Amy Mayes Band. There was also a four-legged pub crawl, with the winning team being The Vic Superheroes and the fancy dress prize going to Friends of Blossom.

On Saturday there was the annual street fair. Dorchester Moose won best-dressed stall and The Horse with the Red Umbrella won best-dressed shop.

The winner of the carnival draw was Katherine Hill, who won a night for two in the King’s Arms with champagne.

“We would like to thank all the companies that supported the carnival this year, and the Kings Arms, Cohort Computers, Waitrose and Dorchester Cook for donating the prizes, said Ben Round Table’s Ben King.

“The procession was a big success, with more than 30 entries. We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to marshal the route, as we could not have done it without them.”

An added highlight this year was the flash mob that took place in Brewery Square after the procession had finished. Dorchester Round Table is looking at the possibility of running the procession through Brewery Square next year.
