Dorchester artist Paul Cleden is one of three printmakers whose work is being featured in this year’s summer exhibition at Gallery On The Square, Poundbury.
Paul’s distinctive, lively images are produced using a number of different techniques – typically multi-block lino printing, but more recently a mixture of collograph, monoprint and lino-etch. His style echoes the artists of the early 20th century, such as the Grosvenor School.
Also exhibiting are Robin Mackenzie and Sarah Ross-Thompson. Robin, also based in Dorset, concentrates on wood engravings and lino-cuts, working mainly with the ‘reduction’ process in which the same block of wood or lino is re-worked for each colour involved.
Sarah works almost exclusively in collography, experimenting with different materials in such a way that her work is constantly evolving. Previously living and working in Dorset, she relocated to the west coast of Scotland in 2012, but Dorset themes still run through her work.
The exhibition starts on 20 July and runs until 26 August.
