Around 30 venues in Dorchester will be showcasing the work of Dorset artists during Open For Art fortnight, which starts on 18 May.

Across South Dorset there are 70 venues, and artists taking part include professionals with an international reputation as well as newcomers and children’s prize-winners. Some venues are art galleries, some cafes, and others are at artists’ studios.

The first Open For Art event was in 2017. This year’s event, organised again by Olivia Nurrish and Carol Cruickshank of the Artwey group, is almost double in size. In central Dorchester there are 10 venues. In Poundbury there are almost 20, including a ‘taster exhibition’ at the Duchy of Cornwall’s base, Poundbury Farmhouse.

David Murdock, owner of Gallery On The Square at Queen Mother Square, Poundbury, said: “Dorset is home to a large number of talented artists, and this is a brilliant opportunity to see their work.

“Here at Gallery On The Square we will be showing pictures by one of our long-standing favourite painters, Angela Goodman, as well as paintings by a newcomer to the gallery, Rebecca Guyett.”

Open For Art runs from May 18 to June 2.
