If you have yet to discover Gennaro’s genuine Italian pizzas in Dorchester, then you are missing out on something really special.
Forget the big chains – if you want real Italian pizza, there’s only one place to go!
Nonno Peppe pizza parlour is a little hard to find, tucked away up an alley at the top end of Trinity Street, not far from Antelope Walk. But it’s well worth searching out, because the pizzas are quite simply amazing, and cooked fresh using local ingredients and home-made dough.
The Thursday night ‘special’ – run in conjunction with the Convivial Rabbit, Dorchester’s great micro-pub – is not to be missed. The Rabbit, just opposite Genarro’s, always has four or five different craft ales on tap (even more at Christmas). Hosts Nigel and Nicky go out of their way to source new brews, and you will rarely find the same one twice.
The meal deal costs just £14, and you get two drinks (pints of beer or cider, or glasses of wine) and a 12” Nonno Peppe house special – just order at the Rabbit and enjoy a beer while you wait for your pizza to be cooked. And that pizza really is ‘special’ – a lovely light pizza cooked the way only Italians know how, with a delicious tomato and mozzarella base topped with roasted courgette, aubergine, goat’s cheese and chilli flakes.
Trust me, once you’ve tried one of Gennaro’s pizzas, you won’t want to go anywhere else!
